Devils Lake in Lenawee County, Michigan was originally a Potawatomi Indian village and remained so until the arrival of settlers around 1830. Manitou Beach, located on the south end, is derived from the Potawatomi word "Michemanetue," which means "Lake of the Evil Spirit." Present day Devils Lake is a popular summertime destination for residents of Michigan and surrounding states. The lake is 515 acres in size and has a maximum depth of 67 feet.
